The Association of Chinese American Physicians ("ACAP") is sensitive to privacy issues on the Internet. ACAP believes it is important that you know how ACAP treats
the information about you ACAP receives via the Internet, and who can access information about you located on this website (the "Site").
- Visit the Site. In general, you can visit the Site without telling ACAP who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. ACAP web servers collect the domain names, not the email addresses, of visitors. This information is aggregated to measure the number of visits, average time spent on the site, pages viewed, etc. ACAP uses this information to measure the use of the Site and to improve the content of the Site for members. ACAP does not track visitors to the Site in order to sell or give away the information.
- Members-only access. There are times, however, when ACAP may need information from you, such as when you access the members-only areas of the Site. At that time, ACAP collects from you your email address and password. These items are used to authorize your access to the members-only area through a comparison with ACAP database. If you leave the Site (but do not close your browser), you will still be able to access the members-only area if you return. To ensure that unauthorized persons cannot access any confidential data about you, or use your member benefits, ACAP encourages you to close your browser window when you have finished accessing the members-only area of the Site. Other ACAP members and administrators can access information about you. Vendor representatives who hold ACAP membership are NOT authorized to use your contact information available on the Site for marketing purposes. Members are not authorized to use contact information available on the Site to "spam" other members.
- Collecting information. When ACAP collects any other information from you, ACAP tries to let you know at the time of collection how ACAP will use the information. Usually, the information ACAP collects is used in aggregate, or internally to respond to inquiries, process orders, collect confidential survey data, or to allow you to access specific member services.
- Disclosure. Apart from where you have consented or disclosure is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was submitted, personal information may be disclosed in special situations where ACAP has reason to believe that doing so is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against anyone damaging, injuring, or interfering (intentionally or unintentionally) with ACAP rights or property, users, or anyone else who could be harmed by such activities. Also, ACAP may disclose personal information when ACAP believes in good faith that the law requires disclosure.
- Security. ACAP strives to ensure the security, integrity and privacy of personal information submitted to the Site, and ACAP reviews and updates the security measures in light of current technologies. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure. However, ACAP will endeavour to take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information you may transmit to ACAP or from ACAP's online services. Once ACAP does receive your transmission, ACAP will also make the best efforts to ensure its security on ACAP systems.
- About cookies. Cookies are data that a website transfers to an individual's hard drive for record-keeping purposes. Cookies, which are industry standard and are used by most websites, including those operated by ACAP, can facilitate a user's ongoing access to and use of a site. They allow ACAP to customise information presented to you. If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to deny or accept the cookie feature. But you should note that cookies may be necessary to provide you with some features of the Site.
- Links to other websites. The Site may contain links to other sites, such as ACAP sponsors, and related organizations. ACAP hopes these sites share ACAP's high standards and respect for privacy; however, ACAP is not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites.
- Problems or questions. If ACAP becomes aware of any ongoing concerns or problems with the Site, ACAP will take these issues seriously and work to address these concerns. If you have any further queries relating to ACAP Privacy Policy, or you have a problem or complaint, please contact us.
