The Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP) will be hosting a small health lecture on September 25th (Monday) from 3 PM to 5 PM in the second-floor meeting room of the Elmhurst Library, located at 86-07 Broadway, Elmhurst, NY 11373. This lecture is sponsored by MetroPlusHealth.
The topic of this lecture is “Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) Prevalence and Long-Term Consequences.” NAFLD is a chronic liver disease with rapidly increasing global prevalence. Uncontrolled NAFLD over the long term can lead to a range of serious consequences, including Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), liver fibrosis, and cirrhosis. NAFLD refers to the accumulation of excessive fat in the liver unrelated to alcohol consumption. It is closely associated with metabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. The severity of NAFLD can range from simple fat accumulation to NASH, which involves liver inflammation and cell damage. If NASH is not managed, it can progress to liver fibrosis, where fibrous tissue increases in the liver, potentially leading to cirrhosis. NAFLD is a significant liver condition, but with early diagnosis and proper management, the risk of severe consequences can be reduced.
Dr. Chuan-Sheng Wang, a gastroenterologist and liver specialist, will teach how to intervene in NAFLD with a reasonable lifestyle during this lecture. Dr. Wang graduated from Peking University Medical School and conducted immunology research at the Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. He later served as a resident physician at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, known for its reputation and ranking in digestive science research. Dr. Wang is an expert in the field of digestive diseases and liver diseases, including liver transplantation. He holds dual doctorate degrees in medicine and science and is an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine. His clinic, Elmhurst Digestive and Liver Diseases, is in Elmhurst, Queens.
