Health Fair

On Sunday, May 28th, the Chinese American Physicians Association (ACAP) organized the “Community Health Day” at the Kissena Corridor Park in Flushing. The event was jointly organized by ACAP, the American Love Bridge Foundation, the Presbyterian Queens Hospital, and several health insurance companies and healthcare organizations.

The event featured a wide range of activities, including seven free health lectures. Experienced doctors were invited to give talks on various health topics, such as Dr. Li Wensong from the Pain Management Department speaking on “Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Common Pains: Back Pain, Neck Pain, and Knee Joint Pain,” Dr. Wang Yulin from Internal Medicine discussing “How to Measure and Monitor Blood Pressure Correctly,” Dr. Hong Jia from Internal Medicine addressing “Osteoporosis and Fall Prevention,” Dr. Tu Yufei from Ophthalmology presenting “Precautions for Cataracts and Glaucoma,” Dr. Liao Huijuan from Endocrinology discussing “Precautions for Diabetes,” Dr. Zhu Ziqiang from Internal Medicine talking about “Cancer Screening through Blood Tests – Feasibility and Limitations,” and Dr. Cai Dongming from Neurology speaking on “Early Diagnosis and Preventive Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.”

Over 20 professional doctors from various fields, including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pain Management, provided one-on-one consultations at the event. Healthcare institutions, including the Chinese American Registered Nurses Association and the Charles B Wang Community Health Center, offered free medical examinations for blood pressure, hepatitis, and other health issues.

Multiple medical institutions, insurance companies, pharmacies, and community organizations set up booths to provide consultations, disseminate health knowledge, and distribute small gifts to the public.

Dr. Li Jin, the President of ACAP, pointed out that health issues have received more attention after the pandemic. The annual “Chinese Health Festival,” which was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, has been highly popular among the public, with enthusiastic participation every year. With the current situation of the pandemic under control, people are encouraged to participate in community activities to obtain more health advice. Over 400 people attended the Chinese Health Festival on that day and received a wealth of health information and free consultations from doctors.

The participating and sponsoring units of this event included Affinity Health Plan, Alpha Law LLC, Bank of America, Chinese American Registered Nurses Association (CANA), CaringKind, Centerlight, Charles B Wang Community Health Center, Eastgene, Elder Plan, Health First, Health Need Urgent Care, Humana, Lenco, LiveOnNY, Main Street Radiology, Med-Space Drug, Novo Nordisk, NYPQ, Queens Surgical Center, Starside Drug, True Care, United Health Care, and VillageCareMax.

The Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP) is a non-profit organization composed of Chinese doctors with medical licenses in the United States. Since its establishment in 1995, ACAP has had over 700 members, mostly practicing physicians, researchers, and medical professionals working in medical institutions in the greater New York area, as well as young medical workers studying in medical schools.

The mission of ACAP is to give back to the Chinese community, promote quality medical services, raise awareness of healthcare among the Chinese population, and help new immigrants understand the U.S. healthcare system. The annual Chinese Health Festival is ACAP’s most important community event, and people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to participate.

The organizers also welcome valuable suggestions and feedback on the event and encourage everyone to visit the ACAP website at www.acaponline.org or call 718-321-8798 for more information.
